The Rother hiking guide to the Azores is the standard work for hiking in the Azores. Published in German, English, French, and Dutch, it currently contains 105 entries. TURISMO hiking trails

The Azores boast an attractive network of hiking trails spread across all nine islands. The trails are signposted, consistently marked, and divided into three different difficulty categories. There are linear hikes (PR), circular hikes (PRC) and long-distance hiking trails (GR) which can be divided into several stages. The average hiking time is around 2,5 hours.
Many hiking trails follow old, classic routes. Some are centuries old. A large number of them are still in use today.

The geographical diversity
