The Rother hiking guide to the Azores is the standard work for hiking in the Azores. Published in German, English, French, and Dutch, it currently contains 105 entries. Touren (8th edition 2025) is the most comprehensive work and at the same time one of the most toured books in the entire publishing series.
With its list of key facts, detailed route descriptions, map excerpts with marked routes, elevation profiles, and numerous tips, this book provides all the necessary information for a successful hiking holiday in the Azores. Many sections of the route partially follow the official Turismo-TourIn some places, they were combined or extended to form longer hikes. Where possible and practical, hikes were designed as circular routes.

TURISMO hiking trails
The Azores boast an attractive network of hiking trails spread across all nine islands. The trails are signposted, consistently marked, and divided into three different difficulty categories. There are linear hikes (PR), circular hikes (PRC) and long-distance hiking trails (GR) which can be divided into several stages. The average hiking time is around 2,5 hours.
Many hiking trails follow old, classic routes. Some are centuries old. A large number of them are still in use today.
These connecting routes were built on behalf of the Regional Government of the Azores together with the TourThe archipelago's trails have been restored. The geographical diversity
The Azores extend over 600 kilometers in the Atlantic Ocean and are divided into three island groups: the eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria), the central group (Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial) and the Western Group (Flores and CorvoEach island has its own unique character.
